Trump's Former Spiritual Guide Admits to Inappropriate Behaviour with Teen
The longtime spiritual advisor to Donald Trump acknowledges engaging in improper sexual activity with minors.
Robert Morris, former spiritual advisor to Donald Trump and founder of Gateway Church, admits to sexual abuse of a minor, Cindy Clemishire, who accuses him of grooming and abusing her from age 12 to 16. Morris claims he has since repented and been restored to ministry, but Clemishire alleges a cover-up and criticizes the church's response.
Robert Morris, a former spiritual advisor to Donald Trump and the founder of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, has admitted to having improper sexual relations with a juvenile.
This happened after Cindy Clemishire came out and accused Morris of abusing her in public for four years, starting when she was twelve and continuing until she was sixteen.
According to Clemishire's account, Morris started grooming her for abuse when she was twelve years old.
“When I was in my early twenties, I was involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady in a home where I was staying.” Morris said.
It horrified his accuser to refer to her as a young woman when she was clearly a girl.
“It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong."said the pastor, whose church draws an estimated 100,000 worshippers each week.
“This behavior happened on several occasions over the next few years.he added.
“He said the abuse came to light in 1987 and it was confessed and repented of.” he added.
Morris alleges that he was under the authority of the church elders, including Clemishire's father, who was the leader of the church he attended.
“They all asked me to step out of ministry and receive counseling and freedom ministry, which I did.
“Since that time, I have walked in purity and accountability in this area.” he said.
Clemishire said “she was appalled by his description of her as a young lady.
“I was 12 years old, I was a little girl, A very innocent little girl. And he was brought into our home.” the now 54-year- old grandmother told the Christian Post of abuse that took her “decades to wrap my brain around as an adult.”
“I was an innocent 12-year-old little girl who knew nothing about sexual behavior,” she said.
“My father never ever gave his blessing on Robert returning to ministry.” she said.
“My father told him he's lucky he didn't kill him. I am mortified that he is telling the world my dad gave his blessing.” she added.
Morris is accused by Clemishire of subjecting her to repeated abuse in Texas and Oklahoma, while duping his wife into believing he was providing spiritual guidance and counseling.
She finally opened up to a trusted friend about the abuse, who urged her to share her story with her family.
When her father discovered what had happened, he demanded that the lead pastor take immediate action to remove Morris from ministry, threatening to go to the police if necessary.
Consequently, Morris took a two-year leave of absence.
“Of course, we forgive because we are called to biblically forgive those who sin against us. But that does not mean he is supposed to go on without repercussions.” Clemishire added.
In 2005, she filed a lawsuit against Morris, but his legal team disgustingly claimed she was responsible for the abuse due to her alleged flirtatious behavior.
They tried to hush her up with a $25,000 payment, tied to a non-disclosure agreement, but she stood firm and refused.
In a statement to the Christian Post, church elders claimed that Morris had been properly restored to ministry through a biblical process following his confession.
“Pastor Robert has been open and forthright about a moral failure he had over 35 years ago when he was in his twenties and prior to him starting Gateway Church.
“He has publicly shared from the pulpit the biblical steps he took in his lengthy restoration process.” they said.
The church asserts that Morris has demonstrated a consistent pattern of integrity, with no additional moral failures, since his restoration was completed two years ago.
“Pastor Robert has walked in purity, and he has placed accountability measures and people in his life,” they added.
The issue has been transparently disclosed to and dealt with by the church's governing body.
