Head coach of the Super Eagles Finidi steps down.

Finidi George resigns as Super Eagles Coach: Nigerian Football Federation announces departure after two games, amidst poor performance and public backlash.

The position of Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has been filled.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) revealed a few days ago that Finidi will be leaving the position as the team's foreign technical consultant.

Finidi George's time at the helm of the Super Eagles was short-lived, managing just two competitive games since taking charge in April, prior to his departure.

In his debut game, he led the squad to a 1-1 home draw against South Africa; in his second game, the team lost 2-1 to the Benin Republic. These were World Cup qualifying matches for 2026. Nigeria, which had previously drawn with Zimbabwe and Lesotho, was sentenced to fifth place in the qualification group by their most recent run of poor performances.

Nigerians responded negatively to the unimpressive results, especially on social media.

The NFF executives were then called by Minister of Sports Development John Enoh to “give cause why there mustn't be consequences for the disappointment caused both government and the generality of Nigerians” in response to the defeats.

The foreign technical adviser will be appointed, according to the NFF, in the "coming weeks.
