Sanwo-Olu awards N10 million to the top graduating student



Aminat Yusuf, the top graduating student at Lagos State University (LASU), received a N10 million award from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday at the university's 40th anniversary celebration and 26th convocation.


Yusuf, who graduated from the Law Department, with a flawless total GPA of 5.0 in the 2021–2022 school year.


At the ceremony, a number of notable people were awarded honorary doctorates.


Among these were Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Elegushi Kingdom in Lagos, former governor of Lagos State and minister of works and housing Babatunde Fashola, and former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.


A Doctor of Humane Letters in Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment was awarded to Fashola in recognition of his achievements.


In recognition of his work in youth empowerment and urban and rural community development, Fashola was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters.

A doctorate in human rights, national integration, and African security development was awarded to Fayemi.

Femi Gbajablamila, the former speaker of the house of representatives, received a doctorate in law with a focus on national development, education, and community. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree in women's empowerment, environmental development, and child healthcare.


A Doctor of Humane Letters in Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment was awarded to Fashola in recognition of his achievements.


A doctorate in humane letters in the fields of African security development, national integration, and human rights was awarded to Fayemi.


Femi Gbajablamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, received a Doctor of Law in Education, Community, and National Development. A Doctor of Humane Letters in Child Healthcare, Environmental Development, and Women Empowerment was awarded to Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor.


Oba Elegushi earned a Doctor of Arts degree in Human Rights Advocacy, Community Integration, and Broadcasting.


The general overseer of Mountain of Fire, Pastor Daniel Olukoya, was awarded a Doctor of Science in Genetics and Biotechnology, while Oba Sulaimon Raji-Ashade, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, was granted a Doctor of Humane Letters in Grassroots Development.


10,183 students in total, including 282 with first-class honors, graduated from LASU for the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 academic years.


Additionally, the institution granted 1,604 students postgraduate certificates, professional and academic master's degrees, doctorates in philosophy, and professional doctorates.
