Pregnant woman fakes own abduction to avoid husband's disappointment over miscarriage, Ogun police reveal. Rahemat Lateef staged her kidnapping and fled to Kwara State, but was tracked down and is now receiving medical attention.

On Monday, June 24, the Ogun State Police Command declared that it had been established that Rahemat Lateef, a pregnant lady who had claimed to have been kidnapped by unidentified assailants on her way to the state hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for childbirth, was not the real victim of a kidnapping.

The state police command's spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, made this revelation the same day.

According to Odutola, the woman chose to stage her kidnapping in order to spare her husband—who was expecting her delivery—the disappointment of learning that she had experienced yet another miscarriage.

It was reported that Lateef fled to Kwara State and afterwards brought her father back to Abeokuta.
It was learned that the housewife planned the kidnapping because she was upset over her frequent miscarriages.

It was learned that the housewife invented the kidnapping narrative as a means of escape since she was frustrated by her recurring miscarriages.

Providing updates on the event, Odutola said, “Rahemat Lateef who the husband reported abducted, was never abducted, but planned her journey to Kwara State, to escape the wrath of her husband, because she has remained unlucky due to miscarriages.

“She planned the stories, she travelled to Kwara State herself, she was far from kidnap. She had a miscarriage, was frustrated due to repeated recurrences, and feared her husband's reactions, so she orchestrated the script. The anti- kidnapping team started tracking her, till she showed up.

“She is under medical attention, safe,” she added.

It was said that Ogunbunmi Lateef, Rahemat's husband, alerted the authorities about the kidnapping of his spouse by unidentified assailants.

In confirming the report, Odutola stated, “One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife due for delivery left home for the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta”

“He received a WhatsApp message confirming the abduction of his wife by unknown armed men.”
