OHCSF Exposes 1,618 Fake Civil Servants with Forged Employment Letters
How, in just one year, OHCSF discovered 1,618 federal servants using fictitious employment letters
OHCSF cracks down on fraud: 1,618 federal servants using fake employment letters removed from payroll, 69,308 verified employees, and anti-corruption efforts intensified with EFCC and ICPC.
The Head of the Federation's Civil Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, declared that 1,618 officers had been removed from the Integration Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) because, during the course of the previous year, they had been found in possession of false and illegal employment letters.
This was said by Yemi-Esan during the Civil Service Week celebration in 2024.
She stressed that thorough physical verifications carried out by many Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, or MDAs, have proved 69,308 people are currently employed, compared to the previously exaggerated figure of over 100,000 in the civil service.

Yemi-Esan emphasized joint efforts with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to eradicate malpractice in relation to corruption in the public sector.
Yemi-Esan emphasized the execution of social programs, including as low-interest housing plans intended to lessen the incentives for dishonest behavior among public employees.
“We endeavor to divert attention of civil servants from engaging in corrupt practices by providing welfare packages like housing schemes with a single-digit interest rate.
“These welfare packages have helped to reduce temptation for civil servants to engage in corruption.”
The effective implementation of a whistleblower program, which encourages people to expose corruption anonymously to the OHCSF or through online platforms, was also emphasized by the Head of Service.
Yemi-Esan went on to emphasize the continuous digital transformation occurring across ministries, emphasizing the directive that all MDAs completely shift to digital operations by the end of 2025.
Yemi-Esan stated unequivocally that the Tinubu-led government is committed to modernizing and guaranteeing openness in Nigeria's civil service, which is an essential step in the direction of a responsible and effective public sector.
