Justice for MohBad: Oba Elegushi Reiterates Commitment
Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate kingdom, has reiterated that he would be happy to have a comprehensive investigation conducted to solve the mystery surrounding the sudden death of well-known Afro-pop artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, well known as Mohbad.
During the ongoing trial of James Adeshola and Awiye Azeez, the traditional ruler made claims against the two suspects through his attorney, Adepeju Omotayo. He based his claims on the unjustified cyberbullying, defamation, and character assassination he endured at their hands after the musician passed away.
Barrister Omotayo stated “The revered traditional ruler is very clear on his position on this matter. He has continued to admonish all those seeking justice to do so responsibly and in accordance with the law. He is not standing in the way of justice but will not allow anyone no matter their status or position in the society to tarnish his name and reputation for whatever gains.”
While he has never met or spoken with the late Mohbad, his wife, or any other member of his family, Oba Elegushi continued, he expressed concern that, in his capacity as a leader, father, and traditional ruler, the circumstances surrounding his death be investigated and those found to be responsible brought to justice.
“His Majesty is also interested in seeing that the circumstances leading to the death of this young man are unravelled. This was emphatically made known even to Mohbad's father when we met him and encouraged him not to relent in his efforts in asking about what led to the unfortunate and painful death of his son. However, this must be done within the ambit of the law” Omotayo added.
The trial of the two accused persons at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, was delayed again at their request. The case has been adjourned until July 5, 2024, for the trial to continue.
