IN a shocking move, James Maddison has been left out of England's squad for Euro 2024, with the midfielder departing from the team's camp last night. The decision, made by manager Gareth Southgate, has sent shockwaves through the football community, sparking a heated debate among fans and pundits.

Maddison, who has been an integral part of Leicester City's success in recent seasons, was widely expected to make the cut for the European championship. His impressive form and creative flair on the pitch had many tipping him for a starting spot in Southgate's lineup.

However, it appears that Southgate has opted for other options, leaving Maddison to ponder what could have been. The 27-year-old's omission is a significant surprise, given his consistent performances in the Premier League and his experience on the international stage.

Additionally, Maddison missed a public statement;  Devastated doesn't quite cut it. Trained well and worked hard all week but if I'm honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn't at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make. I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that. I'll be back, I have no doubt. Wishing the boys all the luck in the world out in Germany, unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends. I genuinely hope football comes home.”

As the news broke, fans and pundits alike took to social media to express their disbelief and disappointment. Many questioned Southgate's decision, citing Maddison's talent and versatility as key attributes that would have strengthened England's squad.

While the reasons behind Maddison's exclusion remain unclear, one thing is certain – this decision will be a tough pill to swallow for the midfielder and his fans. As England prepares for Euro 2024, the absence of James Maddison will undoubtedly be felt.
