Germany Secures Knockout Stage Spot with Win Over Hungary
Musiala Shines as Germany Maintains Unbeaten Euro 2024 Start
Germany defeats Hungary, secures spot in Euro 2024 knockout stages. Jamal Musiala shines with a goal, sending Germany through to the round of 16.
Germany secured a spot in the Euro 2024 knockout stages with a win over Hungary, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament. Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala was the standout player, scoring a goal and impressing from the start. His powerful shot early in the first half narrowly missed the target, but he made no mistake later in the half, sending a shot into the roof of the net.
Musiala's goal was met with controversy, as Hungary claimed Ilkay Gundogan had fouled defender Willi Orban before setting up the goal. However, a VAR check validated the on-field ruling, and Musiala celebrated with his teammates in front of the Hungarian fans. Hungary thought they had pulled one back just before halftime, but Roland Sallai's rebound header was disallowed for offside.
Germany has secured a spot in the round of 16 and will advance as Group A winners if they defeat Switzerland on Sunday at 20:00 BST in Frankfurt. Hungary, on the other hand, needs to bounce back from their disappointment and defeat Scotland to have any hope of advancing, after losing to Switzerland in their opening match.
Ilkay Gündogan named player of the match.
