Rivers Governor Fubara Appoints Interim Chairmen for 23 LGAs, Orders Audit: In a move to ensure transparency and accountability, Governor Fubara has sworn in caretaker chairmen for all 23 Local Government Areas in Rivers State and directed a comprehensive audit of their financial records.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara installed new interim chairman for each of the state's twenty-three Local Government Areas (LGAs) on Wednesday, June 19.

A three-year audit of the 23 Local Government Areas' financial records has also been ordered by him to be started by the State Auditor General.

According to a statement from G.M. Gillis-West, the Clerk of the House, Fubara had turned in the list of nominations to the state House of Assembly on Tuesday, June 18, and they had been invited for screening right away on Wednesday morning.

The nomination was made against the backdrop of a resurgent political crisis in the state, in which former council chairmen have refused to leave their positions after their terms have expired.

The state capital of Port Harcourt's Executive Council Chambers at Government House hosted the swearing-in ceremony under strict security.

Eleven caretaker chairmen initially took the oath of office in the first batch, and then there were other groups that took the oaths.
