Meet Farooq Oreagba, the 'Steeze King' who stole the show at Ojude Oba festival with his impeccable style and grace, inspiring Nigerians on social media.
Ojude Oba, which translates to “the king's forecourt,” is a significant cultural and historical event for the Yoruba people, particularly the Ijebu group in Ogun state. It is celebrated every third day after the annual Eid-el-Kabir festival. The event showcases Yoruba culture through traditional dress, parades, and cultural presentations.
Farooq Oreagba stole the show at this year's Ojude Oba event, receiving widespread praise on social media for his impeccable sense of style and "steeze." A viral video shows him riding into the event on horseback, dressed in yellow and green Aso-Oke Agbada regalia, complete with a gold crossbody chain, red coral beads, and matching helmet. He accessorized his visible tattoos and smoke pipe with opulent sunglasses and an Apple watch, making a grand entrance that left the audience cheering.
Farooq Oreagba was born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, in July 1966. He attended King's College Lagos and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School before graduating from Coventry University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He also holds a degree from Edward Greenes College, Oxford, London. Oreagba has had a distinguished career in finance, holding various positions for over thirty years. He was a member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange's Derivatives Product Advisory Committee before assuming his current role in 2023.
In 2014, Oreagba was diagnosed with bone marrow and skin cancer, forcing him to temporarily halt his career. He underwent treatment for over two years and eventually survived the cancer. This experience changed his perspective on life, making him realize that some things that used to bother him were no longer important. He found new sources of motivation and has been receiving counseling ever since.
