France and Netherlands Share Spoils in Euro 2024 Thriller, But Controversy Reigns

Xavi Simons' Goal Disallowed as Netherlands and France Play Out Frustrating Draw

Netherlands & France play out frustrating 0-0 draw at Euro 2024. Xavi Simons' goal disallowed, N'Golo Kanté named Player of the Match for 2nd game in a row.

The Euro 2024 match between the Netherlands and France ended in a goalless draw, with Xavi Simons' second-half goal being controversially disallowed. France missed their captain Kylian Mbappe, who didn't start due to a broken nose sustained in the previous match against Austria. Despite this, the French team had several scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize on them.

The Dutch team was left feeling frustrated and disappointed after Simons' goal was ruled out. The referee, Anthony Taylor, and the video assistant referee (VAR) deemed that Denzel Dumfries was offside and blocking the goalkeeper's view, leading to the goal being disallowed. Although the Netherlands had a strong claim for the goal, they also had moments of poor finishing, with Antoine Griezmann wasting several good chances.

Adrien Rabiot and N'Golo Kante created opportunities for France, but Griezmann's finishing was lacking. Wout Weghorst, who scored a late winner against Poland in the previous match, was brought on in the final moments but couldn't find the back of the net. As a result, both teams are now on four points in Group D, with Poland eliminated from the competition.

N'Golo Kanté has been named Player of the Match for the second game in a row, earning his second POTM award in France's match against Netherlands.
