Uzodinma Appoints Self Imo State Commissioner Of Lands
Governor Hope Uzodimma |
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has been appointed as the state's land commissioner.
The governor announced this decision on Tuesday, April 30, during the inauguration ceremony for 24 newly appointed commissioners at the Government House in Owerri.
Governor Uzodinma explained his choice, stating that this self-appointment is aimed to avoid similar occurrences from occurring again.
He cited a previous commissioner who was involved in problematic land transactions near the conclusion of his first term as an example.
In November 2023, Uzodinma won the Imo governorship election for a second term by a landslide.
He won the majority of votes after sweeping all 27 LGAs in the state.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate received 540,308 votes, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 71,503 votes, and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), who received 64,081 votes.
Uzodinma won local government elections in Ideato South, Onuimo, Okigwe, Orsu, Ihitte Uboma, Mbaitoli, Owerri Municipal, Nkwerre, and Ahiazu Mbaise.
Abayomi Fashina, the returning officer for the Imo governorship election, proclaimed Uzodinma the winner.
Uzodinma became governor of Imo State in January 2020 following a Supreme Court decision that annulled the election of Emeka Ihedioha.
