Student from Anambra dies after teacher beats him into a coma

Henry Okonkwo, a student at Landmark International School, Mgbakwu in the Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, passed away after a teacher had beaten him into a coma.

Early on Wednesday morning, the boy gave up the ghost.

 

According to MON DIARIES, Faith Nwonye, a 30-year-old instructor at the school, was taken into custody after allegedly punching a student, age eight, into a coma.

Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, had already invited Nwoye to discuss the circumstances surrounding the child's abuse on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Chuma-Udeh had been saddened by the turn of events, bemoaning the victim's current admission to a hospital and its prospects of survival.

The victim's prospects of life while being admitted to a hospital are at 20%, the doctor informed Chuma-Udeh, who expressed regret over the development.

She declared that the school was operating illegally, characterizing the situation as a felony that included hitting a child and operating an unauthorized school in the state. The commissioner cautioned anybody who engaged in such behavior that they were doing so at their own risk.

Along with Mrs. Promise Ilo, the proprietor of the school where the event occurred, the teacher was invited.

The incident resulted in the school being closed while an inquiry was allegedly launched.

However, the instructor who acknowledged beating the youngster claimed that the punishment was not as severe as it was shown.

The child was in the hospital's intensive care unit when the situation was turned over to the police for investigation; it was there that he passed away early on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, the commissioner expressed her sorrow over the youngster's passing on her verified Facebook wall. She said that the boy was just like any other boy, with goals and dreams.

She wrote, “He was a boy like any other, with hopes and aspirations. He went to school for a better future but met a gruesome death at the hands of the people who were supposed to help him achieve his life ambition.

“A quack teacher in an illegal school bludgeoned him to death. We mourn a life nipped in the bud! We mourn Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo! We mourn and we seek justice.”
