Nigeria's Olympic Team to Train in 4 Different Camps
Team Nigeria will open camp at four locations for the Paris Olympics
As the Federal Ministry of Sports Development steps up athlete preparation for the Paris Olympics, Team Nigeria will formally launch domestic camping in three States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
The states of Lagos, Bayelsa, and Oyo are suitable for domestic camping. At a ministerial strategic technical meeting on Thursday in Abuja, Minister of Sports Development John Enoh revealed this.
The purpose of the conference, according to him, was to get Team Nigeria ready for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Presidents, secretaries, and technical directors from the eleven sports federations headed for the Olympics were present at the meeting.
The minister promised that international training tours for athletes will start right after the local camp, emphasizing the significance of making appropriate preparations for the Games.
He stated that a number of close-by nations, including Germany, Spain, Italy, and even the United States, have been scheduled for the athletes traveling to Paris on international tours.
John Enoh promised that every effort will be made to guarantee that Team Nigeria does well at the Games.
He said: “The combination of domestic camping and foreign training tours is essential. It ensures our athletes are well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level.”
The minister stated that the ministry was working nonstop to improve upon Nigeria's best performance in the Olympics, which was made in Atlanta in 1996.
“Surpassing our best Olympic performance is a goal that we should target to meet. We must build on our past successes and strive for excellence in Paris 2024,” Enoh said.
Stakeholder meetings outlined a detailed plan and technical training schedule for Team Nigeria before to the Games, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Federation and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD) and the Ministerial Podium Performance Committee will carefully examine the program to make sure Team Nigeria is headed toward medal success.
The minister stated that by utilizing cutting-edge facilities and professional coaching from both domestic and foreign sources, the plan will give athletes the best possible preparation.
According to NAN, 88 competitors have already qualified for the Olympics, with others currently undergoing the qualifying procedure.
The dates of the Paris Olympics are July 26–August 11.
