Kano Assembly Scraps 4 Emirates
Kano Assembly Removes Four Kano Emirates
The Kano State Emirate Council Law (Amendment 2), which dissolves all five of the state's Emirates, was approved by the House of Assembly of Kano State.
This followed discussions that took place on the House floor under the direction of Speaker Hon. Ismail Falgore on Thursday.
The Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Bill passed second and third readings before being discussed on the House floor.
The deputy speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu, had earlier clarified that the law's repeal would restore Kano's lost grandeur, pointing out that the state's ability and dignity at the federal level had been diminished by the division of Kano Emirate into five.
According to Lawan Dala, the leader of the majority, the establishment of new emirates altered culture, which is why it is necessary to return to the Kano historical basis of one emirate, one people, and one state. The emirate council was responsible for protecting this culture.
