IPOB Member Arrested for Enforcing Sit-at-Home in Anambra

Anambra police detain a possible IPOB member who is executing the sit-at-home directive.

Three people who were attempting to enforce a sit-at-home order were hurt by security personnel in Anambra State, and one member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was arrested.

The Oba overpass in the Idemili South Local Government Area is where the tragedy happened.

Residents of Anambra remained indoors on Thursday, May 30, despite assurances from the police and security services.

It was discovered that labourers employed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo at Ekwulobia to build the flyover connecting Oko, Igboukwu, and Amawbia had left their sites, and that roads from Awka to Onitsha and Nnewi had been abandoned.

As of nine in the morning, there was no traffic on the normally busy Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, and the well-known motor parks in the city were vacant.

Messages allegedly from IPOB members were making the rounds, threatening everyone who ventured outside their homes.

In addition, the command offered hotlines for residents to call the police in the event that there is violence in their neighborhood.

“The Command is fully aware of secessionist activities and urges the law-abiding citizens of Anambra to disregard such propaganda,” said SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command's spokesperson, in a press statement.

He added: “The Command is fully aware of secessionist activities and urges the law- abiding citizens of Anambra to disregard such propaganda.

“Police operatives laid an ambush on miscreants along the Oba flyover in Idemili South. This led to the interception of a gang of four armed men operating on motorbikes. During the encounter, one miscreant was apprehended, while the other three managed to evade capture, sustaining bullet injuries in the process.

“The operatives recovered a locally made Beretta pistol, four expended cartridges, two phones, and incriminating evidence indicative of unpatriotic and disloyal behavior towards the Nigerian government.

“Rest assured, the police, along with other security agencies, have mobilized law enforcement resources to ensure the safety and security of every citizen in the state.”
