EPL: Lucas Paquetá Charged with Misconduct by English FA Over Betting Allegations
LUCAS Paquetá, a professional footballer, has been charged by the English Football Association (FA) with misconduct related to alleged breaches of FA Rules E5 and F3.
The charges stem from incidents in which Paquetá is accused of intentionally seeking to receive a yellow or red card from the referee in order to manipulate the betting market and allow one or more individuals to profit from betting.
Specifically, the FA alleges that Paquetá violated Rule E5 by seeking to influence the progress or conduct of matches for improper purposes, and Rule F3 by failing to comply with the rules and regulations of the game. The charges include two breaches of Rule F3, related to Paquetá's alleged failures to comply with the rules.
Paquetá has been given until June 3, 2024, to respond to the charges. If found guilty, he could face disciplinary action, including fines, suspensions, or other penalties. The FA takes allegations of misconduct and breaches of its rules seriously, and will investigate and adjudicate the matter accordingly.
Lucas Paquetá said: “I'm extremely surprised and upset to see that the FA have decided to charge me.
“For nine months, I've cooperated with every step of their investigation and provided all the information I can.
“I deny the charges in their entirety and will fight with every breath to clear my name.
“Due to the ongoing process, I will not provide any further comment.”
