Enugu Deputy Director Of Water Corporation Charged With 'Defrauding Citizens Of N150k'

EMEKA Edoh, the deputy director of Enugu State Water Corporation (ENSWC), has been charged with allegedly robbing residents of N150,000.

On Tuesday, Edoh was brought before Joseph Agu, chief magistrate, at the magistrate's court in Enugu North.

The deputy director pled not guilty to the one count charge.

During the court hearings, E.E Ezekwe, counsel for the defendant, requested that the deputy director be given bail because the charge is a bailable offence.

Onyinye Ugwu, a legal officer at the Office of the Attorney-General of Enugu, rejected the bail application, stating that the offense is serious.

Following the arguments, the magistrate granted Edoh bail in the amount of N500,000 with a surety who must be an ENSWC employee at grade level 14 or higher.

The matter was delayed until May 22, 2024, for a continuation hearing.

In another incident, the magistrate denied the bail application of four defendants who were arraigned on three counts bordering on crime, purpose to intimidate and collect money from unsuspecting members of the public, and breach of peace.

The defendants' names are Onyeka Nicholas, Okechukwu Umeh, Monday Udeh, and Tochukwu Ezeh.

The defendants were accused of setting up illegal roadblocks to collect money from unsuspecting members of the public.

On April 23, the Enugu administration banned all forms of unlawful tolls and extortion of motorists by touts in the state.
