Sidi Ali, Renowned Veteran Journalist, Former Lawmaker, passes Away At 86
SIDI Ali, a well-known senior journalist and politician for the Second Republic, passed away in Kano State on Thursday, April 25, at the age of 86.
A family member confirmed his death on Friday, April 26, bringing an end to a life devoted to political action, journalism, and public service.
Ali was a pillar in the public information industry with a career spanning across numerous esteemed institutions. He is the father of Hakama Sidi Ali, the interim director of the Corporate Communication Department at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Ali's influence on the media may be seen in his work at the Nigerian International Press Center, as well as his positions at the Ministry of Information and the National Broadcasting Commission.
He said, “I received the sad news of the demise of renowned elder state man, author, journalist, politician, and historian, Alhaji Sidi Ali. The late Sidi a human library was a human library and prolific writer. He was a man who could recall every event that happened in Nigeria till late independence. A great loss. My condolences to his family and people of Kano State.”
Ali left an enduring mark on the way news and information are distributed in Nigeria, from his work at the Nigerian International Press Center to his positions at the Ministry of Information and the National Broadcasting Commission.
Sidi Ali was a prominent player in Nigerian politics and a human rights advocate in addition to his journalism pursuits.
Shehu Sanni, a human rights activist and former senator, praised Sidi Ali, calling him a walking library among other things.
An accomplished politician, Ali participated actively in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was a key figure in the Kano State Elders Committee of the party.
