Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed from Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the Heads of State Summit of the International Development Association (IDA21) in Nairobi, Kenya.

African leaders will come together to support a substantial restocking of the World Bank's International Development Association, or IDA, the concessional lending arm, during this momentous gathering, which is being hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto.

Vice President Kashim Shettima serves to play a crucial role in advancing Nigeria's vision for a transformative IDA-21 financing package during the 2024–2026 period, which aims to accelerate development across the continent, according to Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media.

Shettima will also speak about the strategic importance of IDA in achieving Nigeria's objective for economic transformation, especially given the country's young population and the need for significant investments in sectors like human capital development, energy access, and job creation.

The proposed “Nairobi IDA Communique," which will be discussed during the summit, lists critical priorities for the upcoming three-year funding cycle for IDA. Enhancing energy and digital accessibility, creating jobs, building climate resilience, developing human capital, and promoting sustainable growth are a few of them.

African leaders have a vital forum to come together and demand greater support for the continent's development objectives during the IDA summit.
