GRANDMOTHER Fatimo Ganiyu has been placed under arrest by police in Ikotun, Lagos State, on suspicion of imprisoning three minors.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, authorities captured Ganiyu after unsettling video from the area surfaced.

The concerning level of emaciation the infants were in was shown in a photo that a worried neighbor sent.

The children had been confined for several days without access to food or water, according to a resident's account on Thursday, April 18.

According to the resident, “The children were abandoned for a while, and they were locked up without food or water for days. Some people claim it has been for months, while others say it has been for weeks.”

A police source from the division, speaking anonymously as he is not authorized to comment publicly, stated that they received information about three children, two boys and a girl aged between two and four, being locked up by their grandmother in Agodo Egbe, Ikotun.

The source disclosed, “At about 16:00 p.m. on April 17, 2024, information was received at the Ikotun Division that three children, a girl and two boys between the ages of two and four, were locked up by their grandmother, one Fatimo Ganiyu 'f' around Agodo Egbe Ikotun.

“The DPO immediately led a team of anti- crime detectives to the scene, and the children were rescued and taken to the station, although they looked malnourished and unhealthy.”

Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, acknowledged the occurrence nonetheless, saying, “The suspect was arrested, while the infants will be transferred for proper treatment and care. The investigation is ongoing.”
