Lawmakers Prepare To Resume Plenary As NASS Refurbishment Completed
The Federal Capital Development Authority gave the National Assembly a N30 billion refurbishment project, which has been finished.
The reconstruction included crucial modifications such as office buildings, roofing, cooling systems, and lift replacements, all of which sought to modernize and improve the National Assembly's infrastructure.
Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, visited the remodeling work on Monday, April 29, with his predecessor, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is currently President Bola Tinubu's chief of staff.
Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House, was also present during the inspection.
The Nigerian National Assembly consists of two chambers: the Upper Legislative Chamber (the Senate) and the Lower Legislative Chamber (the House of Representatives).
Abbas said: “Today, I inspected the newly renovated chambers of the House in the company of my predecessor, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu. We were also accompanied by several principal officers and members of the House.
“I was impressed by the quality of work done. I was particularly delighted by the new look that the chambers now wear as well as the facilities installed therein. The success of this renovation reinforces our confidence in local contractors.
“We also inspected the National Assembly Library complex. Both the chambers renovation and the library complex were the initiatives of my predecessor, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
“I thanked him for finding time to be a part of the historic inspection.
“We are now set to resume plenary sessions at the renovated chambers.”
