Fubara/Wike: Rivers AG Resigns After Rejecting Redeployment

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Rivers State, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor has refused to be redeployed, following Governor Siminalayi Fubara's cabinet reshuffle in the middle of the state's ongoing turmoil,

The Attorney-General also resigned from the State Executive Council in a letter to Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government.

Adangor was transferred to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor's Office) by Fubara via the SSG office, and Isaac Kamalu, the commissioner of finance, was transferred to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

He claimed that Fubara gave him the order to refrain from defending, opposing, or appearing in lawsuits filed against his office and the Rivers Government by individuals who were undoubtedly employed and supported by the government.

The governor said that their transfers were effective immediately and asked them to turn them over to the permanent secretaries of their separate ministries.

However, Adangor stated in his resignation and rejection letter that he was no longer willing to continue serving in any capacity within Fubara's administration.

Adangor said: “I want to state for the records that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Sir. Siminalayi Fubara in any capacity whatsoever.

“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against the Attorney-General and the state government by individuals admittedly hired and sponsored by the government of rivers state.

“Having served the government and good people of Rivers State dutifully, as a member of the Rivers State executive council for five years, it has become imperative for me to quit the administration in order to preserve my reputation. I wish the administration of His Excellency well.”

He said that Fubara had obstructed his work as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice throughout the previous few weeks.

He stated that Fubara gave him the order to refrain from defending, opposing, or appearing in lawsuits filed against his office and the Rivers Government by individuals who were undoubtedly employed and supported by the government.
