FG Will Create 2.5 Million Jobs Through labour Employment Enhancement Initiative
FG's labour employment expansion initiative is expected to create 2.5 million jobs.
She stated this on Thursday, April 26, at the LEEP pre-inauguration event in Abuja.
She emphasized the value of LEEP and the necessity of providing the Nigerian workforce with the opportunity and tools it needs to prosper in the quickly changing global scene of today.
Onyejeocha emphasized that through six key measures, LEEP seeks to achieve zero hunger, zero poverty, economic growth, and the creation of decent jobs.
She said: “The LEEP vision is to train and equip 2.5 million people.
“In Nigeria, youth unemployment remains a pressing issue, with over 13 million young people currently unemployed.
“According to recent statistics, initiatives like LEEP play a crucial role in providing young people with access to training, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial support.
“This will address the challenge of youth unemployment and promoting social inclusion.
“The initiative is a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing key challenges facing our workforce such as job creation, skills development, and migration control.”
“We are optimistic and looking forward to cooperate with the Nigerian government on Labour market information system,” she said.
She went on to say that this included improvements to NELEX to speed up employment, infrastructure renovations, programs for vocational entrepreneurship skills, and a digital skills push.
Onyejeocha also emphasized other elements, like improvements to labor compliance and the global drive for remote work.
She asked for support for these projects from development partners such as the Bank of Industry, UNIDO, European Union, GIZ, and World Bank.
She stressed that in order for the current administration to effectively address the difficulties Nigerians are facing as a result of the fuel subsidy being removed, this kind of help is necessary.
“We cannot do it alone and so we need to partner with you to help us succeed in the country,” she stated.
Luri Aganetto, the program manager for the European Union, promises that the union is prepared to support the effort for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
