Army Raids Terrorists' Katsina, Zamfara, Hideout, Killing 11
ELEVEN terrorists were eliminated during separate operations carried out by Nigerian Army troops in Katsina State and Zamfara.
These operations went after terrorist groups' strongholds within the corresponding states.
Hassan Yantagwaye, the mastermind of terrorism, was raided in Zamfara's Tsafe Local Government Area.
Following the operation, there was a gunfight in which two of his associates were slain.
On Monday, April 1, the Nigerian Army posted this information on X (Twitter).
The post read, “Nigerian Army troops deployed for Counter Terrorism Counter Insurgency operations in Katsina and Zamfara States, in a series of coordinated operations, have raided terrorists' enclaves resulting in the elimination of a significant number of terrorists.
“In an operation in Zamfara State, on March 29, 2024, troops successfully raided the den of a notorious terrorists' kingpin, Hassan Yantagwaye, in Tsafe Local Government Area. Yantagwaye and his group have been responsible for kidnappings and acts of terrorism in some parts of North West Nigeria.
“During the operation, troops overpowered the terrorists in an ensuing gun battle, neutralizing 3 of them and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition. Troops also destroyed the terrorists' camps.”
In addition, eight terrorists were killed during the Nigerian Army's operation in Katsina State, and weapons and military gear were taken from their custody.
According to information obtained, on Saturday, March 30, terrorists and military engaged in a heavy gunfight in several areas of the Faskari Local Government Area, including Shawu Kuka, Shinda, Tafki, Gidan Surajo, and Citakushi in Kabai I and Kabai II.
Eight terrorists were neutralized by the successful operation, which also resulted in the recovery of three locally made firearms, military gear, and a sizable amount of stolen grains.
The interception of illegal substances in Ogun State and the capture of armed combatants in Ebonyi State were also reported by the Nigerian Army.
On March 31, troops confronted armed Effium militiamen in Ebonyi during night patrols. They defeated them in fight and captured one militia member.
The suspect is being investigated in preliminary way, and 11 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition and an AK-47 weapon were found.
On March 29, 2024, at Molegede village in the Odeda Local Government Area, troops in Ogun state also seized 441 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa.
The smugglers ran when they spotted the patrolling troops, and the police found the illegal goods inside a Mazda saloon car. The goods will be turned over to the relevant government agency following initial inquiries.
