Ramadan: Katsina government Provides Its Citizens With Subsidies For Grains

The Katsina government, working with the state's 34 local government areas, has set aside over N10 billion to buy and subsidize grains, which will be given to residents who are in need during Ramadan, in light of the high cost of food in Nigeria.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda affirmed this initiative on Saturday at the inauguration of state and local government committees charged with managing the distribution process.

He states that the initiative's goal is to provide food for about 72,200 people every day throughout Ramadan. According to him, this means that during that time, about 2.1 million (2,166,000) residents would receive food assistance.

According to a statement made by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor of Katsina State's chief press secretary, the initiative entails subsidizing the price of guinea corn, millet, and maize to N20,000 per bag—a considerable decrease from the going rates.

The government has, however, set a limit of ten measures per buyer for the purchase of grains in order to ensure equitable access.
