Peter Obi On Why He Disregarded Labour Party's National Convention
THE Labour Party's 2023 presidential contender, Peter Obi, has made his position known over the party's recent national conference, which resulted in Barr Julius Abure being named national chairman.
Speaking to Nigerians on X Space, a program presented by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi said he disregarded the convention because the party leadership, led by Abure, had not consulted widely with important party stakeholders before to holding the convention.
In addition to stating that he is more committed to creating a new Nigeria than a new Labour Party, the former governor of Anambra emphasized the necessity of doing the right thing to save the party.
He stated clearly, “We did not promise to build a New Labour Party; we promised to build Nigeria.”
Additionally, he supported the demand for a framework for the “OBIdient” movement.
“It is the standard practice around the world where movements form themselves into blocs and are part of the political process,” he stated.
Recall that the LP has been in turmoil lately, with many of its members demanding that the party undergo a full reorganization in advance of 2027.
