John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu in Nollywood, passed away on Saturday at the age of 62 in Lagos following a protracted illness battle.


Nine brief facts about him are listed below


1. John Okafor was born in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State, on October 17, 1961.


2. Prior to joining Nollywood, Mr. Ibu worked as a photographer and a hairstylist.


3. He had left the Yola College of Education because he was broke.


4. John Okafor studied at the University of Technology and Management (IMT) in Enugu.


5. John Okafor had appeared in over 200 Nollywood productions, including M. and His Son, Mr. Abu (2004), Mr. (2005), Coffin Producers Husbond Suppfors aomational Players, and much more.


6. The actor experienced an unidentified illness that put his leg amputation in jeopardy, in October 2023.


7. John Okafor had his leg amputated in November 2023, following a medical condition that necessitated seven surgeries

The actor disclosed that he had a condition in October 2023 that might require him to amputate one of his legs. He claimed that while working on a movie set with other Nollywood actors and actresses, he became aware of the issue.


In order to pay for his medical expenses, Mr. Ibu had made a request for prayers and money from his fans and the general public. In addition, he uploaded a video of himself expressing his fear of losing his leg while lying in a hospital bed.


Okafor suffered from a disease that necessitated seven surgeries, and in November 2023 he had his leg amputated.


The amputation, according to his family, was necessary to preserve his life and improve his prognosis.
