Judges in Brasilia have reportedly decided that former striker Robinho of Manchester City and Real Madrid will spend nine years in prison for gang rape, a conviction that was handed down by an Italian court in Brazil.

The real name of the former Premier League player is Robson De Souza. In January 2013, he was found guilty along with six other men of abusing an Albanian woman in a nightclub in Italy.

The story states that his final appeal against the verdict was denied by the Supreme Court in Rome in January 2022.

Robinho, who has spent the last seven years in Brazil, maintains his innocence. It happened after the decision to imprison the football player in Brazil was approved by nine out of the fifteen ministers on the court.

The former football player, who also played for Real Madrid and AC Milan, will reportedly be detained in Santos, where he presently resides, according to Globo.

The 28-year-old Robinho, who was then playing for AC Milan, acknowledged having “contact” with the woman during his appeal, but the Brazilian insisted it was voluntary.

The Milan Court of Appeals maintained Robinho's initial sentence in December 2020, ruling that he had “belittled” and “brutally humiliated” the victim.

Key evidence in the Brazilian's initial conviction came from intercepted phone calls between him and individuals he was accused of assaulting.
