FG Reportedly Approved N2.5 Billion For The Purchase Of Deep Freezers
According to reports, the FG authorized N2.5 billion to buy deep freezers and generators for Sen. Akpabio's district as empowerment items.
Information has surfaced on how the government of Nigeria, headed by President Bola Tinbu, authorized the purchase of deep freezers, generators, and other equipment for Senate President Godswill Akpabio's district as empowerment projects totaling N2.5 billion.
Popular social media critic Mahdi Shehu tweeted a screenshot of the budget on X, showing that the Federal Ministry of Women's Affairs included five separate N500,000,000 empowerment projects for the people of the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
“EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN WITH DEEP FREEZERS, GENERATORS AND OTHER EMPOWERMENT ITEMS TO BOOST THEIR DAILY EARNING IN THE TWO (2) LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF NORTH WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT AT 250M EACH (IKONO & ABAK),” one of the projects reads.
Agom Jarigbe, a senator from the Cross River North Senatorial District, disclosed on Tuesday that a few "senior" senators each received N500 million from the 2024 budget for constituency projects.
In the midst of a dispute over accusations of budget padding made by Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents the Bauchi Central Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party platform, Senator Jarigbe made the discovery on the Senate floor on Tuesday (PDP).
Ningi said that the National Assembly had approved a budget of N25 trillion for the 2024 fiscal appropriation year, and that the Senate leadership had inflated the 2024 budget by N3.7 trillion. The legislator claims that because the approved budget differs from the N28.7 trillion being implemented by the federal government, Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended.
