The 49-year-old actor Bradley Cooper has disclosed that he struggled to establish a bond with his six-year-old daughter Lea De Seine.

Bradley Cooper shares how difficult it was in the early months of fatherhood to connect with his daughter. Cooper acknowledges that he did not love his daughter without conditions, but he eventually developed as a parent. Despite early skepticism, many people find resonance in Cooper's admission regarding postpartum depression.

He acknowledged that after Lea Shayk was born, he found it difficult to feel a connection to her. He revealed this on Monday's “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepard, where he also talked about how much he has changed as a father since welcoming the 6-year-old in March 2017.

Cooper said that during Lea's first few months of life, he didn't comprehend other parents when they said, “I would die in a second for my kid.”

He recalled feeling that during the first eight months, “I don't even know if I really love the kid. It's really awesome. It's awesome. I'm observing this object change.”

The actor went on, saying, “That's my experience, I find it fascinating. I enjoyed caring for it. But what if someone entered brandishing a gun?”

He admitted after only a couple months into her life, he wasn't sure. “And then all of a sudden, it's like no question,” he added. Cooper confessed shortly after explaining he's since strived to be a better person in order to do the least amount of damage that [he] could do to [his] daughter.

“I'm not sure I'd be alive if I wasn't a dad,” he said. “I just needed someone to say, like, 'We're gonna drop this massive anchor.”

“I'm like, 'Why? We're speeding! I just got an upgrade on the boat, and I know where the wind's coming in. They're like, No, no, no, there's a tsunami coming in, and you need an anchor and we're gonna drop it.”

“Because this is gonna dictate everything you do from now on. Your DNA is going to tell you that there's something more important than you.”
