Angry Youths Have Set Parts Of The Popular Wuse market Over The Death Of A Hawker
Fear as enraged youth set fire to cars and portions of Wuse Market over the death of a hawker
The death of a 17-year-old hawker named Musa has infuriated young people, who have set portions of Abuja's well-known Wuse market on fire.
Information surfaced that a suspect in the market's mobile court attempted to flee but was allegedly shot and killed by the police.
An AMML senior official confirmed the incident, pleading for anonymity.
He said that while the suspect was being brought before the court for a different offense, the boy tried to flee and was shot by the police. The suspect had previously been found guilty of an unspecified crime.
According to an AMML official, this is what incited the attackers to destroy several stores, the AMML office, and a few cars. People ran into the market in a stampede to protect their belongings as a result of the situation.
The number of people injured in the stampede is unclear because some of them pushed through the few open gates while others climbed the fences.
Innocent Amaechina, the AMML's public relations officer, confirmed the fire incident and stated that he was unable to access the area because police and fire service personnel had cordoned it off.
