‘Sad, Shocked And Heartbroken’ — Paul Pogba
“Sad, shocked, and heartbroken,” Paul Pogba says, breaking his silence to refute reports of a four-year suspension.
Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba issued a statement, following the news of his four-year football ban.
Following Juventus' opening match of the season, La Repubblica revealed that Paul Pogba had tested positive for testosterone.
He was then scheduled to appear before an Italian tribunal on Thursday morning, where he was handed the news he didn't want to hear: a four-year football ban. Fans felt both sad and shocked.
The World Cup winner has now released a statement in response to the circumstances.
The doping ban statement from Paul Pogba
The former Manchester United midfielder posted on Instagram;
“I have today been informed of the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping's decision and believe that the verdict is incorrect.
“I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.
“When I am free of legal restrictions the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti- doping regulations.
“As a professional athlete I would never do anything to enhance my performance by using banned substances and have never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for, or against.
“As a consequence of the decision announced today I will appeal this before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
Paul Pogba will contest the ruling
It seems the Frenchman is determined to play football again and won't just roll over and accept the decision.
To be honest, he ought to. Pogba will turn 31 in a month, which means that by the time the suspension ends, the midfield player who once lit up Old Trafford will be almost 35 years old.
