According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles has been diagnosed with a type of cancer.
It was found during his most recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, not prostate cancer.
The nature of the cancer is unknown, but a statement from the palace stated that the King started “regular treatments” on Monday.
According to Buckingham Palace, the King “looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible” and “remains wholly positive about his treatment.”
He will cancel his public appearances, and it's anticipated that other senior royals will assist in filling in for him while he receives treatment.
The prognosis and cancer stage are not being disclosed further.
The 75-year-old King arrived back in London on Monday morning after leaving Sandringham, Norfolk, and the palace reports that he has started outpatient therapy.
The King will continue to carry out his constitutional duties as head of state, including paperwork and private meetings, even though he will be suspending his public appearances.
He was spotted waving to the assembled crowds on Sunday during a church service in Sandringham.
More than a week ago, he underwent a prostate procedure at a private hospital in London.
According to the palace at the time, the King decided to make his prostate treatment public in an effort to encourage more men to get prostate exams.
According to reports on the NHS website, he was thrilled to have brought attention to the problem, as there has been a rise in complaints regarding prostate conditions.
The risk of developing many types of cancer rises with age. According to UK data, persons 75 years of age and older accounted for more than a third (36%) of all new cancer cases annually on average.
