AFCON 2023: Nigeria High Commission Cautions Nigerians In Ahead Of Nigeria Vs South Africa Game
The Nigerian High Commission Issues a Warning Before the Super Eagles vs. South Africa Match
It further pleaded with Nigerians not to hold provocative celebrations in the event that Nigeria wins, as this could spark violence in any form.
Ahead of the Super Eagles and Bafana-Bafana AFCON semifinal match, the Nigeria High Commission has sent out a code of conduct advisory to those who are staying in South Africa.
The statement issued on Tuesday forewarned Nigerian citizens of "veiled threats" against them in the event that the 2013 champions prevail.
It advised the “Nigerian community to be watchful of their utterances” and also “be mindful of where they choose to watch the match, especially in public places.”
It also pleaded with Nigerians not to celebrate in a way that would provoke violence of any kind in the event that Nigeria wins the match.
The High Commission advised against any kind of retaliation in the event of provocation, but as law-abiding citizens, violent crimes should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
After defeating Angola 1-0 in the round of eight last Friday, Ademola Lookman's first-half goal enabled the Super Eagles to secure a spot in the AFCON semifinals.
The 26-year-old forward completed a brilliant run down the left by winger Moses Simon, who eluded defender Kialonda Gaspar's challenge to get free and set up his colleague for his third goal of the competition.
His goal in the 41st minute at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium scheduled a Wednesday semi-final matchup with South Africa.
