‘I Will Ban The Importation Of Human Hair, If I Were President Tinubu’ — Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri demands that Tinubu act and calls for a ban on the importation of human hair
Human hair imports are a major factor in the depreciation of the Naira, which is why Reno Omokri has urged the President to outlaw them.
He also said that foreign airlines had received a billion dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria, criticizing Nigerians for preferring foreign airlines to domestic ones.
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has urged President Bola Tinubu to think about outlawing the importation of human hair in light of the recent depreciation of the Naira. While talking about ways to increase the value of the Naira, Omokri made these remarks and blamed Nigerians for being the main obstacle to the local currency.
The Naira's volatility, according to Omokri, a former special assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, is a reflection of what Nigerians do. He pointed out the huge financial impact of choosing foreign airlines for international travel over Nigerian carriers, criticizing the former's preference.
Omokri demanded a review of these practices, pointing out the significant amounts spent on importing human hair and the needless spending on goods that could be made locally. He specifically addressed the excessive expenditure on human hair, suggesting that Nigeria allocates more funds towards these imports than essential educational resources.
According to to statement on X formerly known as Twitter, he states; “The Naira is a reflection of the Nigerian. Look, the Central Bank of Nigeria just paid a billion dollars to foreign airlines. Those are airlines flying the same route as Air Peace. Do you know that if you and I, as Nigerians, had flown Air Peace instead of foreign airlines, that $1 billion would have stayed and circulated in Nigeria? And when dollars and pounds stay in Nigeria, the Naira rises in power. If they leave Nigeria, our Naira goes lower and lower.
“The Central Bank had to cough up $200 million to pay for human hair, as if God did not give our women hair. This is hair that Indian, Bangladeshi, and Southeast Asian women cit and dedicate to their temples. They then barely process the hair and label them Brazilian, European and Peruvian hair, and our women rush to buy them, wear them, and shake the hair angrily to accuse Tinubu of nining the economy. If I were Tinubu, I would ban the importation of human hair. Fact-check this, as a nation, Nigeria spends more on human hair than on books.
“The Naira is now our collective responsibility. When you go to Quilox to spend #5 million on Moët, Louis XIII Cognac, and Glenfiddich, then post your receipt on social media, you are putting downward pressure on the Naira.
“Containers on the high seas coming to Nigeria with things we can produce in Nigeria are kiling the Naira. There is no magic wand. If we don't band together to stand together and buy made in Nigeria, the Naira will continue to go asunder!”
Speaking hypothetically, Omokri said that if he were Tinubu, he would impose restrictions on the importation of human hair and address the trade imbalance that is depreciating the Naira.
