Economic Hardship: Each Governor Receive Extra N30 billion From FG To Tackle Food Inflation — Senator Akpabio
The FG gives each governor a bonus of N30 billion to combat food inflation, says Godswill Akpabio
The federal government, through the federal inland revenue service (FIRS), has sent an additional N30 billion to each state governor of the federation, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in an effort to alleviate the rapidly rising cost of living in their individual states.
Speaking during a plenary session in the Red Chamber, Akpabio stated that the state governors' monthly allotment of funds is not the same as the actual amount.
Further, he stressed that the money should be used expressly to address the problem of inadequate food supplies and advised against using it for unrelated purposes.
He stated that the money was sent to the state governors by FIRS.
He declared, “We can see a lot of protests here and there, most of those sponsored protests are not aware of the kind of efforts being made by this senate to tackle the situation together with a joint management team of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I must say that unverified report has it that each of the state governments in the last few months has received an additional N30billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service, outside their normal allocation from the federation account to assist them in ameliorating the food situation.
“We believed that every state government should utilise the funds so received towards ensuring that food is available.”

The rising cost of food items in the market has become a concern for many Nigerians, leading to food inflation becoming a worrying issue in the nation.
The Nigeria Bureau of Statistics reports that the country's food inflation rate is an astounding 35.41%.
Food prices are still rising even though the government has declared a state of emergency regarding the nation's food security.
Also, according to MON DIARIES, the president gave the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security instructions to promptly remove roughly 42,000 metric tons of millet, maize, and other goods from the country's strategic reserves.
The president claims that the goal of this initiative is to drastically lower the cost of food in the nation.
