Economic Hardship: Sanwo-Olu Reports That Lagos Civil Servants will Work Three Days A Week
Sanwo-Olu approves work-from-home, slashes transport fare
The state government is arranging for civil servants from level 1 to 14 to only work from their various offices three days a week, according to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the governor, this is one of the steps his administration is taking to lessen the widespread economic hardship in the country.
President Bola Tinubu abolished the fuel subsidy program and unified the exchange rates in 2023, which caused food prices to skyrocket and inflation to soar throughout Nigeria.
“From next week, we are working out a plan where civil servants from level 1 to 14 will come to the office maximum three times in a week,” the governor said.
“Not that all forms of government will be shut down. It will be calendarised and scheduled. Those on level 15 to 17 will miss work for one day.”
Sanwo-Olu made these remarks on Thursday in Lagos during a media chat with reporters.
According to the governor, employees on levels 15 through 17 are expected to report to work four times a week.
Sanwo-Olu further stated that because of the nature of academic activities, teachers in the state's public schools will still work five days a week.
The governor of Lagos announced that more transportation support will be given to public school teachers by his administration.
He stated that his administration will talk to transport unions about reducing fares and declared a 25% cut in state-owned transportation services beginning this weekend.
According to Sanwo-Olu, in order to feed 1,000 people at least once a day, the state will select caterers and “mama put” outlets in each LGA.
He went on to say that his administration would set up “Sunday markets” in at least 42 designated markets where locals would be able to purchase food items at a 25% discount.
