‘APC Will Emerge Victorious In The Edo Governorship Race’ — Ganduje

APC National Chairman, HE Umar Ganduje Presents Certificate Of Return To The Winner Of Edo State APC Governorship Primary & Governorship Candidate Of The APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo At The APC National headquarters Secretariat, Abuja.

According to Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the party's candidate for governor of Edo, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), believes the party has a good chance of winning the Sept. 21 governorship election.

Ganduje said this on Saturday in Abuja when he presented the certificate of return to Okpebholo, saying that there was a need for other aspirants to work with him to ensure the party's victory in the state.

He stated that the state's 192 wards hosted direct primaries with video and record evidence, and that Okpebholo emerged victorious due to his highest vote total.

“The full cooperation, harmony and unity of all aspirants and members of our party is all we need now to win Edo in the coming election now that the primary is over.

“The party has a product that is refined, well packaged and sellable to the electorate in the person of Okpebholo and is therefore ready to win Edo,” Ganduje said.

He said that since then, other candidates had congratulated Okpebholo on being chosen as the party's nominee.

The party's deputy national organizing secretary, Mr. Nze Duru, told Ganduje that the primaries were judged as the most peaceful, equitable, and transparent in the state both nationally and internationally.

In his speech, Okpebholo urged other candidates who ran on the party ticket alongside him to work together to help the APC win the governorship on September 21.

Speaking at the same time, Sen. Lucky Imasuen, a candidate running on the party ticket alongside Okpebholo, said that the National Working Committee (NWC) handled the Edo primary election in a diligent, honest, and equitable manner.

He congratulated the APC Edo Governorship Primary Election Committee on a job well done and promised that Okpebholo and the other candidates would collaborate to secure APC's victory in the polls.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Governorship Primary Election Committee led by Governor Hope Uzodinma initially declared Dennis Idahosa the winner of the Edo Governorship Primary Election on February 17.

However, Idahosa's election was overturned by the APC NWC, which also ruled that the results were disputed.

The committee appointed Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River as chairman in lieu of Uzodinma and scheduled a supplemental election for February 21.

Okpebholo garnered 12,433 votes to defeat 11 other contenders, according to Otu, who declared him the winner of the supplementary primaries.

Okpebholo currently represents Edo Central at the National Assembly.
