The APC Governors Forum donated N200 million to the Super Eagles players prior to their semifinal matchup with South Africa.

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have donated N200 million to Nigeria's Super Eagles ahead of their semi-final clash with South Africa.

This was disclosed by Minister of Sports John Owan Enoh in a statement given to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday. The statement was signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan.

The Progressive Governors' Forum chairman, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, made the donation on behalf of his colleagues.

Enoh praised the APC governors for acting quickly after discussing the necessity of inspiring the national soccer team before the semi-final match with the chairman of the forum.

He said that the APC governors had already redeemed the entire amount of N200 million for the players

“I want to thank the Progressive Governors' Forum under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state for galvanizing and redeeming the sum of two hundred million Naira only to the Super Eagles of Nigeria who are currently in Cote D'Ivoire for AFCON 2023.

“The Super eagles have shown immense commitment and tenacity through every match this shows that they are on the path to conquer the continent again and bring home the coveted Cup of Nations.

“Therefore, we must rally support for them because upon their shoulders lie the enormous responsibility to make Nigeria our great Nation proud,” Senator Enoh said.

The Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa will square off in the first 2023 AFCON semi-final match at Bouakė, Cote d'Ivoire's Stade Bouaké. The winner will advance to the competition's final on February 11 in Abidjan.
