Zambian Minister Resigns As Video Shows Him Receiving Cash Bribes
Zambian Minister Steps Down Following Allegations of Being Seen on Camera Accepting Money From Chinese Businessman
Stanley Kakubo, the foreign minister of Zambia, resigned after he was purportedly seen on camera accepting money from a Chinese businessman.
Kakubo did not dispute that he was in the video, but he resigned due to “malicious claims over a business transaction” in order to avoid upsetting the authorities.
Unverified notes mentioning a $200,000 transaction sparked speculation after watching the video of Kakubo counting cash.
President Hakainde Hichilema accepted Kakubo's resignation, highlighting the importance of precise context.
This is Kakubo's second controversy following an earlier allegation of bribery. Edgar Lungu, the former president, demanded that Kakubo's purported corruption be looked into.
