A Chinese man claims he acted in self-defense when he fatally stabbed Ummulkhulsum Sani Buhari, his 23-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, in Kano State.
Frank Geng Quangrong, on Tuesday, January 23, advised Justice Sunusi Ado Ma'aji of the Kano State High Court to exercise clemency in administering justice because he did not commit the heinous crime himself.
Remember that in September 2022, after a misunderstanding, Quangrong killed Ummulkhulsum? He claimed that after he had spent N60 million on her and her family, she had broken her vow to marry him.
In his testimony, Quangrong, who is accused of culpable murder and suicide, stated: “I didn't kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testes.
“I want this honourable court to temper justice with mercy in the judgment in view of the fact that I stated earlier.”
Justice Ado-Ma'aji adjourned the matter until March 29, for judgment after the adoption of the final written addresses by the prosecution and defence counsels, Muhammad Dan azumi and Aisha Mahmoud.
