Tunji-Ojo Launches Online Application Portal For Passports

Tunji-Ojo had on Monday launched the online passport application portal to allow Nigerians to apply for their international passport



The first-ever online application portal for an international passport in Nigeria is scheduled to be launched by Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Interior Minister, in Abuja on Monday, January 8, 2024.


On Friday, the minister and Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, conducted a demonstration of the online portal. Additional development partners and important stakeholders attended the demo session as well.


The automated passport application process was presented and critically evaluated during the session, and suggestions for improvement were also welcomed in order to guarantee the system's continued development.


For both foreign and Nigerian applicants, an online passport application portal has been created. There are two passport categories for applicants who are from Nigeria and the diaspora.


Nigerian applicants who want 32-page passports with a five-year validity will pay $25,000, while those who want 64-page passports with a ten-year validity will pay $70,00.


In the meantime, foreign applicants who wish to apply for passports with a five-year validity period and 32 pages must pay $130, and those who prefer passports with a ten-year validity period and 64 pages must pay $230. Candidates must submit their applications at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.


Notable participants at the demo session of the online passport application include the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon.Abike Dabiri-Erewa; representative of the International Organisation for Migration (10M), Stephen Matete; Country Manager at Development Alternatives Incorporated, Dr. Joe Abah; Founder of Kwandala Foundation, Tijjani Mohammad Musa and the Co-founder of Technext, David Afolayan.


Others are Director of Programmes at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Akintunde Babatunde; journalist and Community Development Practitioner, Lanre Lasisi; Founder of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, representative of Good Governance Advocate, Adeyemi Adewoye; representative of Connected Development (CODE), Mukhtar Mudibbo amongst others.
