The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Adamawa Governor.

The election of Ahmadu Fintiri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the governor of Adamawa has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

In the lead judgment, Justice John Okoro, who presided over the panel, held that the declaration of Dahiru winner of the election by the state's Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was unlawful and a nullity.

Just now, a five-person panel of the highest court dismissed Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru's appeal, who ran as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the state's most recent gubernatorial election.

The panel's lead judge, Justice John Okoro, declared that Dahiru's declaration as the election's victor by the state's Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was illegal and void.

Justice Okoro further held that anyone else who assumes that rules is breaking the law and that the Returning Officer of any election is the one authorized by the Electoral Act to announce the results of an election.

Also, he ruled that Dahiru and the APC, the appellants, had not produced any reliable proof to support their allegation that the relevant laws had not been followed and that he had won the election with the majority of valid votes cast.
