The detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK), has Bruce Fein, his international counsel, petitioning the UN, EU, Commonwealth, and African Union to suspend or ban Nigeria from the community of civilized nations.
Bruce Fein said that “no country in the world is safe from Nigeria's trademark lawlessness” in a petition to the world's leaders, accusing Nigeria of being an outlaw country and a threat to international peace and security.
Mentioning numerous transgressions of international law The counsel emphasized that the Nigerian constitution lacked fundamental components of civil engagement because it was drafted in secret by a military dictator and was never approved by the Nigerian people. This included the hanging of Ken Sarowiwa among the alleged brazen disregard of the rule of law as sanctioned by the civilized societies.
Fein was especially incensed that the Nigerian Supreme Court upheld Mazi Kanu's trial, even though it acknowledged that the criminal prosecution stemmed from the kidnapping and unusual rendition of Kanu from Kenya. Fein had protested the ongoing detention of his client despite obvious violations of fundamental human rights.
The attorney recommended that world leaders take action and look into Nigeria's eligibility, among other things.
The petition titled “Nigeria's incorrigible lawlessness-Suspension or expulsion from international bodies.”
Bruce Fein, a USA based International lawyer wrote:
“I am writing as international counsel for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He is currently arbitrarily detained in a Nigerian dungeon in precarious health and denied access to necessary medical care.
“The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention declared on July 20, 2022, that Mr. Kanu's detention was in violation of sixteen (16) jus cogens international human rights covenants. It ordered his immediate and unconditional release and reparations."
The lawyer called on world leaders to look into Nigeria's eligibility to be on the same level as other members of the international community, among other things.
