The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Oluwatoyin Madein, emphasized that the OAGF does not directly make payments on behalf of MDAs

Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), has made it clear that the OAGF does not pay MDAs for projects and programs that are carried out by the MDAS.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation had requested that grants be given to vulnerable groups in certain States of the Federation. The AGF was responding to these reports in the media.

According to her, funds are disbursed to self-accounting MDAs in accordance with the budget, and these MDAs are in charge of carrying out their projects and making the necessary payments.

The AGF clarified in an Abuja statement that while her Office received the aforementioned request from the Ministry, it did not process the payment. However, the Ministry received advice on how to proceed with making these payments in accordance with the established payment procedure.

The AGF stated that no bulk payment is intended to be made to a single person's account under the project accountant's name in such circumstances; instead, payments are typically handled by the impacted Ministries acting as self-accounting entities.

She went on to say that the beneficiaries should receive this payment through their verified bank accounts.

In the management of public finances, Dr. Madein reaffirmed her commitment to upholding the values of accountability and transparency. She gave MDAs advice on how to always make sure the necessary procedures are followed when conducting financial transactions.
