Joseph Boakai, the newly elected president of Liberia, bolted from the podium during his inauguration ceremony, claiming to have experienced “heat-induced faintness.”
On Monday, January 22, 2024, Joseph Boakai, the newly elected president of Liberia, had to end his inauguration speech due to a “heat-induced faintness.”
The 79-year-old was given his acceptance speech when he suddenly stopped and was later led off the podium during the sworn in ceremony in the nation's capital, Monrovia.
In a statement, the president's office said that although Boakai had experienced exhaustion, doctors had since pronounced him to be “perfectly fine.”
