Daniele De Rossi was named AS Roma's replacement after Jose Mourinho was fired after two and a half years in charge

The Giallorossi have only won one of their last six Serie A games and are currently ninth in the league. Former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi has been named as Mourinho's replacement. AS Roma has parted ways with head coach Jose Mourinho because of their poor performance.

Daniele De Rossi has been named as Jose Mourinho's replacement at Roma following his two and a half years in charge.

The Giallorossi have only triumphed in one of their previous six Serie A matches, and they were recently eliminated from the Coppa Italia by rival city team Lazio, where Mourinho was sent off.

They are 22 points behind Inter Milan, the league leaders, in ninth place in Serie A.

After spending two and a half years with Roma in 2021, Mourinho helped the team win the Europa Conference League in 2022.

The previous season, the 60-year-old led them to the Europa League final, where they lost to Sevilla on penalties. June was when his contract was set to expire.

De Rossi, a former captain of Roma, was named Mourinho's replacement on Tuesday afternoon. According to Sky in Italy, De Rossi will lead until June, after which the team may decide to extend his contract in light of his performance and accomplishments.

Antonio Conte and Graham Potter were also given consideration for the part.

According to a Roma statement: “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin personally called Mourinho to the Trigoria training facility on Tuesday morning.

The owners informed Mourinho of their well-considered choice, given the state of the season thus far, especially the past month. The owners of the club feel that this is the ideal moment to make a change in course.

As a result, Roma's training session was called off; on Saturday, they will host Verona, who are in 18th place.
