Foreign identities on the mining company's CAC document implicated in the Ibadan explosion says Governor Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday, announced that certain foreign names were listed as owners on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of a mining company that was charged in connection with Tuesday's explosion in the Bodija area of Oyo State.

Makinde, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television's Politics Today program on Wednesday night, added that one more victim of the tragic explosion passed away in a hospital today, bringing the total number of fatalities from the explosion to three.

“We recovered one individual alive today (Wednesday) under the rubble. 60 of the 77 people hospitalised have been discharged,” the governor said.

“We are trying to uncover the identities of the people. We've done a few fact-finding on the company involved and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company involved but these are still early days. We don't have anything to cover,” he said

Security personnel should be inviting a person of interest to be questioned, according to Makinde, who stated that the state has identified them. “It is not anything that has to do with banditry and insurgency but illegal miners that stored explosives in a residential area,” the governor said.

He declared that the state's citizens should have faith in his administration and that there is no justification for a cover-up. Makinde announced that he would sign an executive order in the next few days authorizing miners to store explosives with the military, and that he would seek presidential approval for this to happen. 

According to the governor, those whose homes were destroyed have been given temporary housing in hotels in the state capital's Bodija and Agodi neighborhoods.

Recall that on Tuesday night, a loud explosion shook the historic city of Ibadan, causing buildings to collapse from the intense vibration.
