Chris Hughton has been fired by the Ghana FA after the country's group stage elimination at AFCON 2023

"The Executive Committee has also taken the decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars," a press release states.

Hughton's team managed just two points and third place in Group B after losing all three of their group stage matches.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) declared in a statement on Tuesday night that Hughton “has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect.”

Part of the statement says, “The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the Black Stars technical team.”

The Englishman was fired, a day after Ghana was eliminated from the ongoing AFCON at the group stage.

Despite not winning a game, Ghana was grouped with Mozambique, Egypt, and Cape Verde.

Ghana was drawn into Group B with Mozambique, Egypt, and Cape Verde, but they lost all of their games.

They threw away a two-goal lead in their final group match against lowly Mozambique, conceding twice in added time.

Former Newcastle manager, 65, collaborated with head coach Otto Addo at the GFA in February 2022 as a technical advisor.

In February of last year, Hughton was subsequently named head coach of Ghana.

Ghana has lost seven AFCON matches and was eliminated from the competition in the group stages of the previous two AFCON tournaments.
